Wednesday

As i sit here waiting for my evening students to arrive, bored senseless, i ponder the intracacies of the english language. Wednesday for example. Phonetically it sounds like it should be spelt wensday. Why do we not say wed..nes..day as it is spelt? Hmmmmm.........!

Why not "Havok" also then ?

you need to move to Norfolk then, cos the locals don't pronounce anything like it is spelt. English is a difficult language isn't it? it's a wonder that foreigners manage to learn it, but they do and often do a better job than people who live here.

My favourite quote relating to the correct use of the English language, was what a friend of mine told his daughter.

She was learning German at school,and being rather cheeky about the fact that her father could not speak German.

He eventually stirred to reply.

"Thas wants to start learning English proper, before thas starts learning German."
